Lids and covers.-The lid of a metal box for containing pastes, powders, &c. has its edge curled inwards at 2, Figs. 1 and 3, so that it may snap into a recess in the body of the box. The recess is formed at the junction of two portions of different diameters, the box being either formed as shown in Fig. 1 or as in Fig. 3. The lid can be removed by twisting a knife or coin inserted as shown, or by striking it with a suitable object.
