Tread bands.-A tread band for attachment to the outer cover of a tyre is formed by winding a strip 4 of fabric and rubber about a pair of cords 8 consisting of untwisted linen or other fibre coated with rubber. Fig. 5 shows the preferred method of cutting the strips 4 from a roll 7, and Fig. 4 the method of winding about the cords 8. The folds of the band are arranged obliquely on the tread of the tyre so as to present the fabric edge-on to the ground.
