Abstract

Radial-cylinder engines; driving-gear.-The pistons of a fluid-pressure engine having stationary radial cylinders and a common clearance space are completely constrained by two sets of rotating cams which engage the ends of pivoted arms secured to the pistons. In a four-strokecycle internal-combustion engine, pistons 20 are secured by links 21 to pivoted arms 25, the ends of which engage cam-surfaces on one of two adjacent tracks, as shown in Fig. 1. During expansion, rollers 23 engage cam-surfaces 32, cam-surfaces 33 on the same track effecting the compression and exhaust strokes. The pistons move outwards on their suction strokes under the influence of cam-surfaces 35 on the second track. The cam - rollers 28 are adjustably mounted on eccentric pins 29.
