Abstract
15,045. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Horne, J. June 27. Loading - appliances.- Relates to rammers of the kind that are automatically returned to the withdrawn position after each, long or short, ramming-stroke. According to t h e invention, the reversing-contrivance, which, in the example illustrated, is of the kmd described in Specification 15,033/12, is set to effect the reversal on the completion of the projectileramming stroke by a movable stop-device carried partly by the gun-loading cage. The stop-device is displaced when the rammer is withdrawn, and causes or permits the reversing-contrivance to assume the position for reversing the rammer at the end of the powder-charge ramming-stroke. The reversing-contrivance (not shown in Fig. 3) is controlled with lost motion by a lever D<Î>, which is moved into the position shown, against the tension of its spring d<ÎÎ>, by a projection h on the projectile-buffer H of the hoist-cage when the cage ascends. The reversing-contrivauce is thus positioned for reversing the rammer at the end of the projectile-ramming stroke. When the projectile P is rammed, the buffer H releases the lever D<Î>, which however is then supported by a projection h<2> on the usual bolt H<2> that locks the cage to the loading-arm A. The return of the rammer-head A<1> houses the bolt H<2> again, and the lever D <Î> is free to be depressed by its spring, so that the reversing-contrivance assumes the position for reversing at the end of the powder-charge ramming-stroke.
