Abstract
11,493. Bothezat, G. de. May 15, 1911, [Convention date]. Aerial machines without aerostats; steering and balancing; planes, arrangement of.-The frame A carrying the supporting-planes of an aeroplane is hinged about a transverse shaft C to the body part of the machine in order to maintain longitudinal stability. Oscillations of the body B are prevented by the provision on it fore and aft of planes I, II which have equal movements about the shaft C. The thrust F of the motor, the head resistance R of the body and the vertical line passing through the centre of gravity G<b> of the body B all pass through the shaft C. The planes I, II may be turned in opposite directions for steering vertically, or a separate elevator may be provided. A rudder for lateral steering may be provided on either or both of the parts A, B. The part A may also be hinged about a longitudinal axis and the body B provided with laterally arranged planes similar to the planes I. II in order to maintain lateral stability. A fixed tail plane q, q<1> may be fitted to the supporting plane structure A.
