Sewing-machines; work guides.-A work guide for use in sewing linen collars comprises a baseplate 1 with a fixed edge-guide 3 attached to it, a vertically adjustable edge-guide 6, and an adjustable intermediate edge-guide 10. The bar 13 of the guide 10 works in a slide 14 and has an inner position limited by a stop 18 as shown in Fig. 1, and an outer position as shown in Fig. 2, determined by the slot in which the clamping-screw 15 moves. The arm 7 carrying the guide 6 is mounted on a spring metal plate 8 which is secured by screws 5 to the base 1. When the bar 13 is pushed into its outer position, a curved surface 11 acts to raise the guide 6. In operation, the device is used with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1, when the full seam of the band is to be sewn. For sewing the other seam of the band to the body portion of the collar, the part 13 is pushed out as shown in Fig. 2. Its nose 11<1> separates the plies of the band, which are then guided by the edges 3, 6 respectively, and the body portion is inserted between them through the slot 22 and against the edge-guide 10.
