Abstract

148,860. Chalman, J. E. Nov. 16, 1914, [Convention date]. Sewing-machines; folding-devices.-A folding attachment made in two sections separable at will without stopping the stitching mechanism, is mounted on the cylindrical work-supporting arm so as to swing forwardly from the stitchforming mechanism. The outer section 22 is adjustably fixed on a plate 14, while the inner section. 21 is slidable in guides in the plate 14, and is held close to the outer section by a spring- pressed rod 33. This rod abuts against a projection on a lever 37 connected to a treadle or knee-lever, whereby the sections of the folder may be separated when the hem of a circular garment is nearly completed so as to allow the hem to be finished off. The front end of the folder has a guard lip 8<a> extending laterally across the meeting edges of the sections. The attachment is carried on an arm 13 which may be swung forwardly about a pin 16 carried in a bracket 9 clamped to the work-supporting arm. A spring 18, co-operating with a cam surface, holds the attachment in or out of operative position as required.
