26,196. Montgomery, C. R. Nov. 23. Skid brakes for motor and other road vehicles and tramcars comprise shoes 1 pivoted to rocking levers 2 which are pivoted at 4 and connected loosely at 7 to a rod 8 operated by a hand - lever 10, the strain on the lever 2 being counteracted by a chain or wire rope 15, which is connected to the skid, passes over a pulley 16, and is connected at its other end to the rod 8, or to the upper end of the lever 2. A stop 2<a> limits the backward movement of the lever 2. The skid, when applied, may raise the vehicle from the ground, or may compress springs arranged in or about the skid 1 or pivot 4. The rope 15 and pulley 16 may be replaced by levers and bell-cranks. The skid rocks laterally about a pivot 20.
