7130. Bell, H. J., and Keiller, J. M. R. March 22. Jacks.-One or a pair of brake shoes are suspended from the rear axle or springs of motor-cars &c. so as to be lowered on to the road to brake or jack up the vehicle or to prevent side slip. The brake shoe d is pivoted to a link a, pivoted to the axle, so as to be lowered through the linkage shown in Fig. 1. A stop n limits the rotation of the link a about the axle. The brake shoe is serrated or ridged on the tread, and is turned up at the front d<1>, which is held raised by a spring f so that the heel of the shoe first contacts with the ground.
