Abstract
20,938. Hunt, W., [Duff, A. B.]. Sept. 22. Ammonia.-A gas-producer is operated for the production of ammonia by a stratified blast, the upper stratum being' of air saturated with steam at 80-85‹ C. and superheated to over 150‹ C., and the lower stratum of air saturated ivith steam at 70-84‹ C., which may or may not be superheated, but always contains less steam than the upper stratum. The upper stratum serves to maintain the most favourable temperature for the production of ammonia, and the lower stratum to secure a higher temperature sufficient to secure the production of ash instead of coke from hard-burning coals.
