Abstract

13,982. Schlumpf, J. June 13, 1910, [Convention date]. Hank type.-In shifting the position of hanks of yarn on carriers consisting of two superposed bars during dyeing, the carriers are rotated about the lower bar only so as to allow the hanks to descend by their own weight. This is effected either manually, Fig. 1, or mechanically, Figs. 7 and 8. The hank carrier consists of two parallel bars 3, 4, Fig. 1, rigidly connected by cross-pieces 1, 2, one of which bars 4 is shorter than the other so as to pass between the side walls of the trough T, whereas the longer one rests on the upper edges of the walls. In a modification, Fig. 6, studs s take the place of the projecting ends of one bar 3. The machine comprises two frames C<1>, C<2> fixed to a common casing C, which is suspended to run on overhead rails 6, 7 above the treating vat T. Mounted in each frame are two lifting-wheels 10, 10<1>, each having two lifters 12 with ends recessed to receive the ends of the carrier bars 3, each lifter comprising two parts, of which one 12<1> is fixed while the other 12<2> turns on an axis 12<3> which is parallel to the plane of the wheel. The movable parts 12<2> are controlled by springs 12<4> tending to pull them away from the wheel. As the lifting-wheels rotate, the nose 12<5> of each movable part 12<2> strikes an abutment 13, which causes the part to swing in towards the wheel 10, against the action of its spring 12<4>, so that a hank-carrier b is inserted or taken out. After passing the abutment 13, the spring re-closes the lifter. The wheels 10, 10<1> are driven through gearing from a motor 14. A lifter having raised a carrier b off the edge of the trough T to its highest position, two hooks 23 on an oscillating shaft 26 grasp the ends of the upper bar 3 of the carrier, stops 24, also fixed to the shaft 26, open the lifter, and the lower bar 4 of the carrier is caught by a pair of hooks 25 fixed to the same shaft 26. The pairs of hooks 23, 25 perform an oscillating motion together in such a way that the upper bar 3 is released as soon as the lower is caught, and the carrier turns through a half-circle about the lower bar 4; it is then laid on two seats 36 fixed to the frames C<1>, C<2> of the machine, a pivotally mounted lever 27 preventing the carrier from passing over the seats. By means of a second pair of lifting-wheels 10' and pairs of hooks 23<1>, 25<1>, the carrier is again turned through a half-circle about its then lower bar 3, and again laid over the vat T. The machine is caused to travel on overhead rails 6, 7 bv rack and spur gearing 22, 21, 20, 16, 15 from the motor 14. The direction of travel may be suitably reversed. There may be two sets of hooks 23, 25 for working, respectively, during the two directions of travel. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also: (1) A detailed description of the manual use of the hank carriers. (2) Further modifications of the carriers to allow complete submersion of the hanks. Fig. 8 (Cancelled); in this case also the supporting-studs need not be continuations of the bars 3, 4. (3) A clutch for bringing the hooks 23, 25, &c. out of action by uncoupling the shafts 26 from the driving-gear. (4) A machine stated to operate substantially as that described above, Fig. 17 (Cancelled), except that it runs on rails R on the floor and is double acting, operating hank-carriers b in troughs T one on each side of the rails. (5) A machine, Fig. 20 (Cancelled), which runs on overhead rails, and has only one lifting-wheel 97, provided with lifting-spurs 98, on each side. This machine may be provided with means for lifting all the carriers together from the edge of the trough, which consist of two pairs of carriages 120 arranged on both sides of the trough guided on vertical rails 121. The carriages are provided with lifting-bars 122, the whole being actuated by the driving-motor through a shaft 125, drums 127, and ropes 130 attachable to the bars 122. (6) A stationary form of machine, Figs. 21 and 22 (Cancelled), wherein the trough T is mounted on a carriage 135 running on rails 136. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
