Abstract
8372. Dowding, J. F. April 4. Spindle apparatus; spindle-driving apparatus. -A loose spindle a is used in combination with a ring and traveller mounted on a lifting-rail and a driven bar-carrier or flyer, which carries round the yarn and drags both the traveller and the spindle. The bar-carrier comprises two or more arms b secured to a wharl mounted on the bolster or footstep bearing. The arms are braced together by a ring or plate b<1>, which is shown in Fig. 7<a> as provided with a ball bearing. The spindle, which is mounted in ball bearings a, may be retarded by vanes p. The lubrication of the spindle is effected by a siphon lubricator h, and in an arrangement wherein the wharl is carried in a rail, the spindle and wharl are lubricated by a split bush and felt pad. The spindle may be made in two parts. In the Provisional Specification it is stated that the driving-band of the bar-carrier is tensioned by a jockey pulley mounted on a lever connected to the bolster rail.
