Abstract

6406. Lake, W. E., [Cottrell & Sons Co., C. B.]. March 14. Inking-apparatus.-Relates to machines in which the printing-cylinders are inked from a distributing-cylinder by means of two sets of transfer rollers, one of which may be put out of action, and consists in automatically tripping the roller of the first set which contacts with the distributing-roller at intervals so that the second set may receive a better supply of ink while this roller is tripped. As shown applied to a multi-colour press, four plate cylinders 6, 7, 8, 9 are fitted with similar inking- devices. The inking-device for the cylinder 6 comprises a fountain 44, ductor roller 52, transfer rollers 56 and working-up rollers 60 coacting with a distributing-drum 48. Two sets cf rollers 64, 65 transfer ink from the drum 48 to the plate cylinder, and the roller 72 of the set 64 is mounted so as to be moved away from the drum 48 at intervals by means of a cam 76 on a shaft 80 and a connecting-rod 88 which actuates a rocking-arm 84 in which the roller 72 is mounted. The cam shaft 80 is driven from the drum 48 by any suitable means such as that described in Specification 17,889/11.
