Window appliances.-A fire-escape comprises a hollow jib b pivotally mounted on a window frame, a lowering-rope e passing from a winding-drum o over guide sheaves in the jib to a waist belt r, and a brake lever f adapted to press the rope against one of the guide-sheaves c when its outer end is depressed by a control rope l. The brake lever is connected to the control rope by a link h, having a hook i engaging a pin k on the jib so as to keep the brake in action until the control rope is gripped.
