Catch gear of mine cage type. - A safety suspending-grip for mine cages &c. comprises a lever g pivoted in a sliding shoe k, and provided with a serrated cam h at one end and an adjustable weight l at the other. The lever is coupled by a chain p to the hoisting-cable and by a link e to a guide block b secured to the cage. If the hoisting - cable breaks, the adjustable weight l tilts the lever and causes it to grip the guide rail c, the cage hanging by the link e. The lever g may be connected to a similar parallel lever on the opposite side of the cage.
