Abstract

Catch gear of mine-cage type. - Comprises safety-catch gear for mine cages, in which spring-actuated levers cause pivoted cam brakes to clamp the guide-ropes when breakage of the hoisting-rope occurs. Brackets b secured to the top strap of the cage carry the pivoted cams d, one on each side of the guide-rope and immediately below a bush b<1> for the guiderope. A lever e, connected to or formed in one with one cam, is connected by a link or the like to the bridle chain. Short arms c<2>, attached to or integral with the cams, are pivoted together by a pin and slot to synchronize movement of the cams. A spring k is attached to the lever and to the strap a<2>. In a modification, the cams are geared together by toothed quadrants, and the lever is acted upon by a flat spring.
