Catch gear of mine-cage type.-Safety suspending-apparatus for cages comprises sliding rods on each side of the cage connected by lever mechanism to pivoted eccentrics which are caused to grip the guides when the hoisting- rope breaks. The rod i moves in guides m, and is connected by links to the main central rod k; which is held up against the pressure of a spring. The rod i is connected to verticallysliding spring-pressed rods g connected in turn by levers and links to rods d pivoted to eccentric grips c pivoted to brackets b carried by the cage. A pawl may be fitted to retain the grip in an advanced position.
