Winches ; fireescape type of apparatus.-Relates to fire-escapes of the type in which a hand-winch, provided with a body strap or sling, runs down a band or wire rope coiled round the winch drum, and consists principally in driving the winch from a hand-crank through irreversible worm gear, thus avoiding the use of hand-brakes. The drum d is mounted between side frames b, and is driven by worm gearing h, i from the hand-lever k. The band n is wound round the drum and its end is attached to the building. The sling comprises a strap l through which the operator passes one leg, and a belt m fastened round his body.
