Abstract

3236. Humphreys, C. H. June 29, 1910. Variable-speed toothed gearing of the type comprising combined slidable claw clutches and gear-wheels 70, 71, and a gear-wheel 72, which may either drive a countershaft 11 or be driven therefrom, and through which a direct drive is obtained, is combined with ' gate ' operating- mechanism of the kind described in Specification 30,427/09. The clutch parts of elements 70, 71 are adapted to be engaged together or singly with the element 72, while the gear parts can mesh respectively with gears 73, 75 fast upon the shaft 11. Four forward speeds can be effected " in proper sequence " by a pivoted lever, the lower end of which is adapted to engage notches 52, 53 on a rod 51 for operating the element 70, and notches 55, 56 on a rod 54 for operating the element 71. Means for reversing of the kind described in the beforementioned Specification may be added.
