Abstract
247. Mlitz, A. Jan. 4. [Addition to 1395/09.] Turn-bolt door fastenings. - Relates to improvements on the railway - carriage door fastening set forth in the parent Specification. An outside handle f is provided on the spindle of the turn-bolt d, and the two bolts c, d are shot by a spring h in conjunction with the weight of the inside handle b fitted on the spindle of the bolt c. The spring acts not only on the bolt c and handle b but also on the detent g and through this on the releasing bolt i. A locking lever p is provided to secure the bolts when shot. The nuts k, k<1>, which secure the handles in position, are located in recesses in the door normally closed by the cover-plates l, w. The plate m is held in place by the boss n of the inside handle b, and the lock cannot therefore be removed from the door until the outer plate l is first unscrewed, to render accessible the nut k and allow the handle b, the plate m., and finally the outside handle f to be detached. Fastenings controlled from a distance. - The bolts can be locked from a distance by a sliding bolt q mounted in the staple and adapted to engage the lock above the bolt d, and operable by electricity or otherwise.
