March 15. indicators, " engaged " and like.-Relates to hook fastenings for sliding doors such as are described in Specifications No. 7087, A.D. 1901, and No. 6762, A.D. 1904, [Abridgment Class Fastenings, Lock &c.]. The fastening is combined with an indicator, and is especially applicable to the doors of sleeping compartments of railway trains, which can be unfastened from the outside only by an authorized person. The hook G is fixed to the spindle F which is screwed into the boss C of a plate on the door. The spindle F is reduced at the part H, where it is square in section, and it terminates in the pin J. It is surrounded by the collar K provided with the boss K<1>, of the shape shown in Fig. 3, which is adapted to engage with the lever T, a projection R<1> on the arm U of which engages between two projections W, Fig. 4, on the indicator plate X. The key V, Fig. 5, is adapted to engage with the end of the collar K, the pin J taking into the hole V<1> of the key. On pushing the hook into the locking position either by hand or by the key, the indicator plate X is moved so as to expose the word "locked" in the gap Y'. The spring D<1>, Fig. 3, is used to steady the boss K<1> and to prevent the fastening from being locked by vibration, and the spring 1, Fig. 4, forces the pivot 2 into one or other of the recesses 3 in the plate P so as to steady it in either position.
