Abstract

Multiple fastenings; turn-bolt door fastenings.-An extra turnbolt fastener c is provided on the inside of the door of a railway carriage, the handle of which is out of the reach of children. To the spindle of the bolt c is secured a toothed sector f which is in gear with a rack rod g similarly geared to the usual outside safety fastener b, so that both fasteners are operated simultaneously whether from inside or outside. The rod g and the fasteners b, c are held inoperative, while the door is open, by a bolt n shot outwards by a spring, but are released therefrom when the door is slammed, the bolt n being pressed in by a striking-plate s on the frame. The rod g may carry a projection h adapted to engage and Jock a cam i on the spindle of the door latch a when the door is closed.
