[Addition to 25,087/10.] Caoutchouc is produced by absorbing turpentine by unvulcanized caoutchouc or other substance and treating it with very dilute sulphuric acid. It is then treated with a succession of solutions of sulphuric acid of progressively increasing strengths, and finally with sulphuric acid of 60-66‹ Be., the entire process being carried out in the cold.
