Abstract
22,964. Cake, H. M. Oct. 12, 1909, [Convention date]. Differential or balance gearing of the type in which two driven shafts 8, 10, one within the other, are in line with a driving-shaft 1, comprises a casing 7 enveloping the planetary pinions 3 of the differential train and serving as a rigid connexion between the outer shaft 8 and one bevel-wheel 5. The other bevel-wheel 9 is secured directly to the shaft 10. The pinions 3 are carried by a head 2 upon the shaft 1, which passes loosely through the wheel 5. The shafts 8, 10 may be connected by bevelgear pairs 15, 16 and 11, 12, respectively, to the road-wheel axle parts 14, 17 of a motorvehicle. The shafts 8, 10 may be locked together by a clutch 20.
