Jackets and covers; tread bands, projections, and surfaces.-The tread of a pneumatic tyre consists of, or is reinforced by, a compound of rubber and metal wool or fibrous metal cuttings, which is vulcanized in position. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the metal-andrubber compound C is placed on the canvas or cord lining A of the tyre, and the rubber sides B of the tyre extend over the sides of the compound. In a modification, the compound C is separated by a rubber layer from the lining of the tyre, and may be covered externally by a rubber layer.
