Abstract
16,664. Beaumont, W. W. July 16. Tread bands, projections, and surfaces.- Tread bands are formed with wide treads of the kind described in Specification 28,517/07, the edges of which are angular and feebly supported so that they yield under the load, the pressure being mainly on their central portions, so that the edges do not become round through wear. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the band E is attached to a tyre, having a worn tread B of the above type, by embedded side wires, cords or the like F and an additional wire or the like H engaging hooks G depending from one of the wires F. The wires H may be provided on each side of the tread. In the form shown in Fig. 3, alternate hooks are engaged by a wire. The wires H may be provided with turn - buckles. The band has preferably a canvas layer, which may be reinforced near the hooks G. In some cases the band comprises overlapping sections. When applied to an ordinary tyre, circumferential ribs and grooves are formed on its inner surface to engage ribs and grooves on the tyre.
