18,027. Chappell, J. L. July 29. 'Wood-screws.-In a wood-screw of the kind in which the nick in the head is undercut to retain the driving-tool, a projection a<5>, Fig. 1, is formed on the base of the nick, the apex lying under the entrance to the nick. The walls of the nick may be roughened or recessed as shown in Fig. 6. A special form of screwdriver for use with such a screw is shown in Fig. 4. The blade is split into two parts b<1> with turned-out ends b<3>, which are separated when the tool is pressed into the nick. The legs b<1> may be bowed as shown in Fig. 5.
