Abstract

137,696. Barrowman, T. M. April 1, 1919 Wood-screws; socket for nails. - A coach or wood screw is formed in two parts 7 each provided with a recess, so that the recesses together form a hole to receive a pin or nail 10 when the parts are properly inserted in a hole in the material 11, 12 to be secured. The pin 10, when driven in, forces the parts into engagement with the material. After the pin has been driven, one or two turns may be given to the screw to drive it home. The head of the screw may be provided with a groove at right-angles to the lineof cleavage of the parts to receive a driver. A wooden wedge may be employed in the place of a pin, and a stop-piece inserted in a slot in the head of the screw may engage the wedge or pin to prevent it from working out.
