Abstract

1,183,795. Nails and nail sockets. C. F. BAKER CO. Inc. 5 Sept., 1968 [14 Sept., 1967], No. 42232/68. Heading F2H. A nail 2 comprises a shank 12 having a portion provided with two sets of threads 10, 14. The nail 2 which may be provided with a slotted head 4 is used to secure a bracket 42 to a wall 38 by locating a plastics insert 20 in aligned apertures 40, 36 in the bracket and wall, and driving the nail 2 into a longitudinal bore (30) (Fig. 2, not shown) of the insert to urge apart insert portions 28 which anchor the insert in the apertures 40, 36. The set of threads 14 having the longer pitch may be formed by a groove 16 in the nail shank 12 and facilitate the driving of the nail into the insert whereas the other set of threads prevent withdrawal of the nail from the insert due to vibrations. The insert 20 may be provided with a head 22 having a recess (32) to receive the head 4 of the nail 2 and one or more slots 26 between the portions 28, the portions 28 being optionally provided with longitudinal grooves 34.
