Wood-screws.-Screws with undercut grooves, such as are shown in Fig. 1, are driven by a special form of screwdriver, shown in Fig. 4, in which the end is reduced at d from the middle towards the sides, leaving, however, a part d<1> of the original thickness. When the screwdriver is inserted and turned, the part d' catches under the walls of the groove, as shown, in Fig. 6, and prevents the screwdriver from slipping out.
