The motor housing 3 and the interior of the winch frame or casing 2 communicate by ports and the armature shaft 9 is made hollow in such a way that rotation of the armature causes a circulation of air through the casings and along the armature shaft. The air in the casing 2 is cooled by a current of air set up in the interior of the drums 1 by forming them with vanes or the like 5.
