Abstract
198,726. Lancashire Dynamo & Motor Co., Ltd., and McLeod, R. S. Feb. 4, 1922. Addition to 175,355. Motors, cooling.-In a modification of the invention of the parent Specification wherein a rotating end plate G making a running joint with the bore c<4> of the casing is provided at each end of the rotor between the core e<1> and the end connections f<1>, the end plate has a series of central openings, or an annular opening around the shaft whereby passages are formed through which air enters the motor clear of the end connections, and peripheral outlets a<1> are formed in the centre of the motor casing. In squirrel cage motors, the rotor bars F are preferably short-circuited by toothed annular rings of the type described in Specification 13504/08. These rings are also notched on their inner edges and the teeth so formed may be inclined to the plane of rotation in order to augment the heat radiation. A deflector H, H<1> is carried by the bearing housing c' so that the end connections and the rotor are cooled by separate streams of air. In a modification where high resistance end connectors are employed, the arrangement may be fitted at one end only of the machine.
