Joist and slab floors.-A floor is formed of ribbed flat slabs supported at their centres by columns and with the main beams cast in situ along their edges, or the slabs may interlock by means of serrated edges. Fig. 1 shows a plan of the first form, and Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3. The ribs 2, 3, of the slabs intersect at right-angles, and pockets 7 form keys for the concrete filling of the main beams 8. A second series of columns may be mounted on the slabs and in line with those below.
