8954. Sperk, G. April 13. Sheet-separators.-Relates to a feeding-device in which the articles to be fed are pressed against an elastic feeder by a friction retarding pad. In the example described, the sheets of paper rest on a table a and project over endless feed-bands b against one of which they are pressed by a friction retarding finger or pad e over which are stretched rubber bands f. Steel fingers or strips o bear on the feed bands b on each side of the central band on which the finger e bears. The pressure of the fingers o, e may be adjusted by screws p retained by locknuts g. The sheets, on being fed, are directed by guides n. The fingers o prevent the upper sheet from bulging upward and for the same purpose a transverse bar may be laid on the top sheet in the rear of the finger e. The friction of the fingers o being very small, it is possible by increasing their pressure, to increase the friction between the paper and the feeding- bands without increasing that between the paper and the retarding device. In order to increase the friction of the sheet-feeding means without that of the retarding means, a weight may be placed on the pile in the rear of the finger e.
