Abstract
6980. Bj÷rgum, N. March 20, 1909, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breechblock.-Relates to automatic guns in which a rotary head on the breech-bolt is unlocked from the barrel during the short recoil of the barrel and breech-bolt together, the barrel being then held by a catch which is released by the return of the breech-bolt. According to the invention, (1) the barrel 6 and rotary breech-bolt head 3, shown in vertical section in Fig. 7, are locked and unlocked by the engagement of a projection 4, Fig. 6, on the breech-bolt head 3 with a single helical groove 5 in the fixed casing; (2) a slow extracting-movement is obtained, at the end of the rotation of the breech-bolt head for unlocking, by the engagement of a helical face 28 on the barrel 6 with a corresponding face on the breech-bolt head ; and (3) the catch 32, which consists of a projection 33 for holding the barrel and projections 35 engaged by the breechbolt, has a hollow cylindrical portion fitting over a stud in the bottom of a recess and surrounded by a spring.
