Abstract

26,841. Ashton, T. R. R. Nov. 18. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breechblock.-Relates to automatic guns of the longrecoil type, and consists in improvements in the locking-mechanism and in the catch for holding the breech bolt in its rearward position. Two locking-levers 17, Fig. 10, are pivoted, one on each side, near the front of the breech bolt and engage abutting surfaces 19, Figs. 4 and 19, on the breech frame. These levers are raised at the end on the recoil, by engagement with cam surfaces 22, Fig. 4, on the detachable rear closing-plug 4. After this unlocking movement, the barrel goes forward, but the breech bolt is retained by the bent end 11, Fig. 23, of a leaf spring 12, which is subsequently released by a lug 24, Fig. 20, on the breech frame when the barrel reaches its forward position. The ejector consists of a screw pin 33, Fig. 20, on the breech frame.
