Abstract
26,690. Andersson, K., Hopper, A. G., and Greenwood, J. E. H., [representatives of Greenwood, A.]. Nov. 17. Regulating; working-fluid supply.-A mixedpressure turbine comprises a low-pressure stage a fitted with two segmental steam-chests communicating with pipes k, n respectively, and a high-pressure stage b which may be supplied with live steam. Low-pressure steam is supplied by a pipe and high-pressure steam by a pipe o. Two valves u, t mounted upon a spindle v admit steam successively to the pipes k, n, and a valve d controls the admission of live steam. These three valves are all operated by a governor m through suitable link-work. During ordinary working with low pressure, steam enters at j and passes through one or both of the valves u, t to the stage a and is exhausted at l, the high-pressure stage b running idle. Should the supply of low-pressure steam be insufficient, a piston r, subjected above to the steam pressure and below to the condenser pressure, is raised and thereby raises the valves u, t so as to close the pipe n only, or the pipes k, n, and at the same time to open the valve d. Live steam next actuates the stage b and then acts by partial impact upon the stage a, the remaining arc of stage a being acted upon by the low-pressure supply from j or not, according to the conditions of load.
