4500. Knight, J. Feb. 22. Axial-flow type; regulating; working - fluid supply. - A duplex turbine comprises two impulse-wheels e, Fig. 1, and two reaction drums c, c' with a common central exhaust b. High-pressure steam may be admitted by a valve g, Fig. 3, to the pipes i, j and thence through valves k, l to either or both ends of the turbine. Low-pressure steam, such as the exhaust steam from a reciprocating engine, may be alternatively or simultaneously admitted through a -valve g<1> to pipes i<1>, j', and thence through valves k', l<1> to the annular spaces q, r, Fig. 1, so that this steam acts on the reaction blades only. Governor valves h, p, Fig. 3, connected together by a rod o are provided.
