Padlocks; locks, revolving- barrel; bolts. - In a padlock which completely covers the staples and fits close against the door &c., a bolt is provided which carries the locking-mechanism and when in the locking position, lies wholly within the casing, the end being flush with the outside of the casing. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the bolt 17 is of telescopic form, the inner sleeve 20 being under the control of a spring 26 within the outer casing, and being provided with a locking-lever 22 which, when the bolt is pressed home, engages a shoulder 16 on the lock casing and retains the bolt in the locking position. The lever 22 can be released by a key B, after which the inner sleeve is pressed out by the spring 26, and the bolt can then be withdrawn, a screw limiting its motion in the lock casing. In the form of bolt shown in Figs. 9 and 11, the spring locking-catch 60 co-operates with a bayonet slot in the padlock casing and, when in locking position, has to be turned to release the inner sleeve 43. The stem 47 which carries the catch 60 is prevented from turning within the sleeve 43 by a series of tumblers 53, 54, 55 with projections engaging slots 67, 68, 69 in the sleeve after the manner of a Bramah lock. The key 70 presses the tumblers until the projections thereon come within transverse slots 67<a>, 68<a>, 69<a> in the sleeve and thus allow the rotation of the stem 47 and catch 60, the barrel then springing out under the action of the spring 42. Relative motion between the bolt and the casing, and between the inner sleeve 43 and the bolt, is prevented.
