Locks, key; knobs, attaching.-Relates to rim, mortice, or other locks for doors, gates, &c. in which the latch bolt can be further shot by a key to serve as the locking-bolt. The follower d' is formed as an arm on a boss D mounted to revolve in the sides of the case A, as shown in Fig. 10. By turning the knob spindle B, the arm engages one or other of lugs e', e<2> on the bolt E, thus retracting it against the action of a spring G. The slots f in the levers F are sufficiently long to permit the movement of the bolt stump e<4>. On shooting the bolt, the lugs e', e<2> pass into vertical alignment with the end of the arm d<1>, preventing the knobs from being turned, the bolt being held by the levers. By sufficiently widening one of the lugs e<1>, e<2>, unlatching can only be effected by turning the follower to engage the other. When only one knob is required, it may be attached to the boss D by screwing it in, and then inserting a square stump I, Fig. 10, from the other side to prevent unscrewing. The invention may be applied to tumbler and reversible locks.
