Abstract

325,704. Parkes, S. R. Feb. 27, 1929. Latches, sliding; striking plates for latches.- A vehicle door lock of the kind in which is incorporated a door locking mechanism to prevent unauthorized interference and made operative from inside and outside of the vehicle, comprises the use of a single spring s to control the deadlocking mechanism t and the inside lever handle k. The sliding bolt d, constructed as shown in cross-section, Fig. 8, may be withdrawn by the inside lever handle k, which is pivoted on the same axis as the follower L of the exterior handle and engages a lug n<2> of the bolt. The dead-locking mechanism comprises the cam extension t for engagement with a shoulder y of the lever k. The spring s is located around the follower L and one end is attached to the lever k by the peg w, the other end x bearing against a boss of the cam t. This boss is formed with flat faces which substantially enclose a right angle, and movement of the cam t into or out of engagement with the lever k causes the spring s to bear against one or other of these plates and secure the parts in the position in which they are left. The cam t is operative by an inside handle u or by an outside key. The striking plate, Fig. 7, is made with a hole c for the peg b, Fig. 3, and with lips e for contact with the sliding bolt d, the underside of the plate being tapered at g for engagement with the tapered face f of the bolt. The parts are made from pressed steel.
