Variable-speed and reversing gearing.-Relates to variable-speed and reversing gearing of the kind comprising a conical pulley c on a driven shaft d connected by a belt f or by a friction roller to a conical pulley c<1> on a parallel countershaft e. The shaft c' is geared to a driving-shaft b, either through a pair of spur-wheels b<2>, e<2> or through a pair of sprockets b<1>, e<1> and a chain for driving in one or the opposite direction respectively. The wheels b<1>, b<2> are loose on the shaft b but may be connected thereto alternatively by a sliding double clutch g. The belt or roller f may be shifted to vary the speed automatically by a centrifugal governor k driven from a sprocket h<1> on the shaft d, which may be connected to the road-wheels of a vehicle. The velocity-ratio may also be varied independently by band by way of a rod 8. The governor k may bemounted on the shaft e.
