Abstract

Compasses adapted to hold an ordinary pencil are constructed with a tubular point - leg 2, within which the point 4 slides and is fixed in position by a screw 5. The nut 14, which secures the pencil 10 in the hole in the threaded lug 12, is formed with one or more annular V-shaped ribs 15 so as to grip the pencil 1 firmly. The pencil-leg has a recess 18 to receive the projection 17 and screw 5 when the compass is closed.
