Abstract

14,387. Sampson, T. Sept. 1. Mules.-A latch c is arranged so as automatically to lock the setting-on rod of a mule or like machine when the belt is placed on the loose pulley, or when it is retained in determined positions partly on and partly off the loose pulley, so as to drive the machine at different speeds. The latch is pivoted to the bracket which carries the setting-on rod and is raised by a sliding bar d on the rod when starting the machine. The bar d is provided with slots, which in one position register with corresponding slots in the rod, arranged so as to determine the required intermediate speeds. When the bar is moved to cover these slots, the latch has a free passage over the top edge of the rod. The bar is automatically returned by a stop d<2> which engages the bracket b. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 8789/94.
