Guards, controlling.- The beater cover of an opening - machine is locked by a sliding bolt f which, when moved to release the cover, locks the pulley c. The bolt is operated by a handle d pivoted at e and operating simultaneously a loose disk a<1> carrying hooked pins a<2> adapted to enter holes in the pulley flange. These pins cannot be disengaged until the pulley has come to a dead stop and been turned back a little. Consequently the cover is locked so long as the pulley is moving. The door of the dust cage is also interlocked with the bolt f by means of. an arm (not shown) pivoted to the door and carrying a projection lying opposite the end of the bolt when the door is open.
