Abstract

13,769. Dodd, W., [Mongne, G.]. June 14. Variable-speed gearing for ring spinning and doubling frames. The object is to increase the speed ot the frame after the cop bottom is formed or at any stage during the building of the cop. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the fast pulley c is made smaller than usual and with it is combined another pulley d, which engages with it by means of laterally-projecting pegs f and can slide over it as shown. When the machine is started, the strap is placed on the pulley d, which at the proper time is moved to the right, causing the strap to slip on to the pulley c and drive the machine at an increased speed. The pulley c may be made of the same size as the loose pulley a, and the pulley d sufficiently large to slide over it. Or the pulleys c, d may be formed in one piece, the portion of smaller diameter being arranged to slide within the loose pulley. The sliding pulley is moved to the right by a weighted cord u<1> and lever t, which is normally held in the position shown by a catch lever m provided at its end with a tumbler lever l. Normally, the lever l is held in the raised position shown and out of range of the copping-motion lever by a lever g carrying a catch plate k which may be adjusted so as to be engaged at the proper time by the ring rail. When the strap is moved on to the loose pulley, the pulley d is moved to the left into the position shown, by means of a lever v<3> and a chain v' which is wound upon the disk v<1>.
