Abstract

13,578. Champ, J. H. June 9. Bottling.-In a bottling-machine of the kind comprising a liquid - supply tank, a filling - mouth, and a reservoir from which fluid under pressure is supplied to actuate a device for holding the bottle against the filling-mouth, the liquid and actuating-fluid are supplied under the control of a multiple-way rotary - disk valve, the working faces of which are held in contact by fluid pressure assisted by a spring. The part D', Fig. 7, of the valve is fixed, and the part D<2> which carries the filling - nozzle F and bottle-lifting cylinder E is movable, the valve being operated by a part rotation of the bottle from an inclined initial position to a vertical filling position. The bottle is guided on to the filling-pipe f<5> and stirrup E<4> by a guide J, Fig. 16. The ported face of the fixed valve disk D<1> is directed towards the boss connecting it with the tank, and its stem is formed in two parts d, d<1> united by a nut d<2>. The corresponding face of the disk D<2> has a flange d<3> provided with a cap d<4>, and the faces are normally held in contact by a spring d<5> and also, in operation, by the pressure fluid admitted to the cylinder E, which finds its way through a port 6 into the chamber formed by the cap d' and the outer face of the fixed disk. The liquid-supply tank B, Fig. 3, is formed with a depressed portion B<1> into which dip the liquid-supply tubes d<8>, so that only a relatively small quantity of liquid need be retained while a large gas space is provided. At the beginning of the filling operation, counterpressure is established in the tank through a by-pass in the fixed part of the valve adapted to be connected with the supply of pressure gas by a needlevalve d<9>. The machine may be rotated by the impulses due to the insertion of the bottles and the operation of the valves, or it may be driven through treadle or motor-operated ratchet mechanism. A table is provided on the frame of the machine to facilitate the handling of the bottles.
