Abstract

19,928. Champ, J. H. Aug. 31. Bottling.-In filling bottles against a counterpressure, after the liquid has been introduced, the residual counter-pressure is gradually reduced before the bottle is exposed to the atmosphere. The gas producing the residual counter-pressure is vented into a receiver at a higher pressure than the atmosphere, the gas of intermediate pressure thus obtained being preferably used in producing the initial counter-pressure in another bottle, before the full counter-pressure is produced by admitting gas direct from the liquid-tank. The invention is shown applied to a revolving-table machine of the type in which the bottles are raised to the filling-heads by fluid pressure, cam-operated plug cocks B<1> being employed to control the supply of pressure fluid, gas for counterpressure, and filling-liquid. In operation, gas at intermediate pressure is admitted to a bottle from the receiver a', then gas at full counter-pressure by the pipe a, the gas left in the neck of the bottle after the filling being vented into the receiver a<1> before the bottle is removed.
