Oct. 27, 1927 Bottling.-An aerating and bottling machine of the kind wherein the bottle in inserted in a bottle-holding device with its neck gripped by a resilient chuck forming part of a filler head and having means for snifting and crown-sealing, has an aerating chamber with valve mechanism to control the supply of gas to said chamber and aerated liquid therfrom to the filler head, thereby rendering the machine capable of aerating, fill ing, snifting and crown-sealing bottles. The aerating vesel 3 on a filling head 4 is filled from pipes 13 by a pump 5 which has a connecting rod 12 connected to a crank pin 11 on a disc-crank 10 rotated by hand wheel 9. A cam plate 17 on a carrier plate 16 on the connecting rod 12 actuates a spring-pressed gas admission valve and a similar cam plate 18 actuates a similar liquid delivery valve which regulated the amount of liquid to be discharged by the pressure of gas from the vessel 3 through passages 42, 43 (Fig. 7) to the interior of the filling head. Between the valves and the filling head is a snifting valve 48 which is operated by contact of the crank pin 11 with the rod 54. The crowning chuck consist of a cylindrical member 78 having spring pressed fingers, provided with inturned projections 80 and retained in position by a sleeve 81. The chuck is formed with passages in communication with the liquid delivery passage and the snifting part. In operation, the pump is connected up with the source of beverage supply, a seal 85 is inserted through the hole 77 and is held by the projections 80. A bottle is placed in a cup-shaped holder 70 (Fig. 1) which is raised by a hand lever 65 so that the neck of the bottle enters the filling chamber 86, and a lever 74, 75 is depressed to raise a presser-plate 76 and compress the rubber 87 tightly on to the neck of the bottle. The hand wheel 9 is then turned to pump liquid to the vessel 3 and operate the valves. When the bottle is filled the lever 65 is pressed down which forces the bottle upwards into the crown seal 85, thus effecting the crownsealing of the bottle.
