Abstract

12,628. Babcock & Wilcox, [Babcock & Wilcox Co.]. May 28. Spray burners.-A device for atomising and injecting oil under pressure in the form of spray into the combustion chamber of a furnace is provided with an improved detachable distributing- plate for imparting the requisite whirling-motion to the fuel as it issues from the nozzle of the sprayer. The end of the usual barrel A has formed in it a number of passages a, and is screwed externally to engage a threaded cap C provided with the usual orifice c. A distributing-plate D, Fig. 3, formed with a central orifice d and tangential slots d<1> is confined in a recess in the cap 0 so as to bear against the end of the barrel A. The plate D is arranged so that the ends of the slots d' are over the passages a, so that the fuel passes through them to the whirling-space formed by the orifice d and cavities a', c<1>. The dimensions and number or form of the slots in the plate D may be varied.
